JAN26 PNH NEW SCHOOL

Hey there, so today should have been my first day of work here in NYC but -as most of you have probably heard- the weather is crazy. This morning I shoveled the driveway, sidewalk and whatsoever just to find it covered in a thick layer of snow only literally a few minutes later. Yay. Swinda called it "Sisyphus"-work and we decided to try again tomorrow. Apart from that, everything is great here! We've seen most of the famous Art museums in NYC and we visited Beatrice in Boston this weekend and experienced the real American college life.
The pictures above were taken a couple of months ago during my first couple of weeks in Cambodia. As I have most likely mentioned before, my school is going to move out of their current building in Phnom Penh this summer. The new school is situated about an hour from PNH at Tonle Bati where it is surrounded by a beautiful landscape. "Grandma" took us on a tour around the new campus,  pointed out a few important things to us and prepared a delicious lunch for us.
Even though the school was not yet completely finished when I visited, classes had already started there. Opposed to the children I taught at Seametrey in Phnom Penh, the children at Tonle Bati have not learnt the fundamentals of English yet. So, for now, the aim at the Tonle Bati location is to develop a basic knowledge of English that they can build up upon later on. When I came to visit (it was a Saturday) a lot of children were hanging out at the school and enjoying the playground (built from sustainable and recycled materials). They were not camera shy at all and tried to communicate in various ways (broken English, gestures).
Last summer, the children at Tonle Bati and some volunteers made a movie (The Wizard of Oz) and the result is quite fascinating considering they've only been studying English for a very short time. If you don't have anything planned this summer yet (or just any time), you should definitely consider volunteering at Seametrey.
See you soon!

(Sorry, German people, I am too tired to translate this...)
